Spiritual Journey Stages

You are a Spiritual Being
You have the potential to embrace your spirituality fully. But starting on a spiritual journey is a choice. Through your life, you are presented with a number of choices which lead to new stages of development for you. In the beginning, most progress on the same general path. At certain points, you are given choices. It can be whether to remain where you are or to step out and explore what lies ahead for you on your own journey.
These choices can come up at any time through you life. It is important to stay alert so you notice them, have faith that you are being guided, and listen to own intuition. Let’s talk about the spiritual journey stages.
The Spiritual Journey Stages
- Innocence- You are born into this world in a state of innocence. When surrounded by a loving family, you continue to live in a joyful world. Your connection to the Divine is still strong. You have not yet been taught how to fit in to the world around you. There are a few who retain their divine connection and continue to spiritual greatness.
- Fear or Ego- As you grow up, the ego shows itself and you become aware of the dangers in the world. Pure love becomes overshadowed by fear and other low frequency emotions. You learn people pleasing skills in order to get what you desire. Also, your personality develops and as you live your life you are creating all of the stories that eventually shape and define you as a person.
- Power- Your desire to overcome fear leads you to find success. You get educated, start a career and a family. You believe that having control will eliminate fear. This is the stage where you focus on making money and accumulating things to gain a sense of security.
This is also the stage where you are presented with your first choice. For many, personal and spiritual growth stops here. This happens if you choose to be consumed with material desires. Life becomes a cycle of seeking power and control. You become self centered and remain at this stage.
More Stages of Your Journey
Others have a feeling that there has to be more to life. Instead of simply accumulating money and possessions, you look for that deeper meaning. In this choice, you begin to awaken spiritually and move to the next stage in your journey.
- Giving- Now you ask yourself how you can best help others and make the world a better place. You are comfortable with giving and not simply receiving. It’s important to note that giving can also lead to a sense of power. Giving can still be ego driven if you expect something in return, including recognition, or you do it because it makes you feel good.
Your Choice
Now you are presented with your second choice. You can go on expecting something in return for giving, but it puts a binding on your spiritual growth. When you choose to give from a place of love and compassion with no concern for reward or recognition, you become selfless. This is the choice that leads to the true start of your spiritual journey.
-
The Soul Sessions- This next phase is not to be rushed. It can take months, years, and even decades. It is your true self emerging and developing a structure for your spiritual self to exist and thrive. The soul is growing, and as you learn more about yourself, you start to implement new routines, strategies, tools, and practices to help you stay aligned with your true self. This looks like working with new coaches, teachers, meditations, reiki healing or discovering essential oils or crystal healing therapy. The list of healing modalities is endless. The soul’s mission is to discover what works best for you. As always, just because something worked for someone else doesn’t mean it is aligned with you. The goal here is to trust your intuition and honor your own path.

Looking Deeper
You look even deeper for the meaning of life. You want to understand why you are here, what you are supposed to accomplish and how to make your life more meaningful. It’s likely you will seek out spiritual mentors, teachers, classes and workshops. Spiritual and self-help books have great appeal to you. You feel driven to practice the techniques you learn. Because you begin seeing your growth, you are encouraged to stay on this path. Your throat chakra opens now and you find yourself expressing your truth.
- The Sage- Your mind fully awakens and you experience cosmic consciousness. As you realize that life is just another role you play, your fear of death disappears. Some simply yogic powers become available to you.
Stuck in a False Belief
Now the third choice is presented to you. Some ego is still present. The mistake here would be to believe that you are special because of your spiritual growth. You might think you have attained enlightenment and learned all there is to know. The true goal is near but the ego is hiding it from you and you are stuck in a false sense of having reached spiritual attainment.
The better choice is to see the ego but not give in to it. Allow the ego to find a place that works within you as a whole. Continue your journey with devotion and humility. Your giving is done purely for the goodness of giving. Instead of thinking “What’s in it for me?”, you wonder how you can serve. Your insight and inspiration grow and you hear your Higher Self speaking to you because your sixth chakra, the Third Eye, opens.
- Awareness and Service- The last step is full awareness of your divinity, your light and your love. You no longer live in a place of ego, and spreading your light is your mission and service to the world. You do this by honoring your joy and living your passion. Doing what you love daily is one of the highest forms of happiness, and by you committing to this happiness, you help to uplift the world. You understand joy is your birthright and peace is your priority.
At this stage, you practice pure joy every moment of your life. All of the chakras in your body are fully open and the energy is flowing through you beautifully.
There are no choices left now. You are functioning in total harmony with nature. As you need something, it is provided to you.
Progressing Through the Stages
The material world carries a lot of attraction in the beginning. Conversely, you may see the spiritual world as ephemeral and less important. But eventually your path leads to becoming your true self and experiencing eternal bliss.
For a great yogi, they lack nothing though their possessions may be few and their life very simple. It is their belief that when you do not follow a spiritual path, you renounce eternal bliss for the sake of some passing moments of happy times. The material world is much like a dry garden eagerly awaiting the knowledge of the divine to water it and make it bloom.
When you are in the material world, all you have is the energy of the body. But when you are on a spiritual path you are tapping into divine consciousness. You can look at the material world as a prison and a spiritual path as a way to true freedom.
Always at a Junction
The truth is that you are always at a junction on your path. You are presented with illusion or truth, eternal or material, body or spirit. When you live with awareness, everything you do is a spiritual act.
Be disciplined with your spiritual practices. Do them daily. If you wander off your path, do not despair. You can step right back on. Over time, your spiritual journey becomes your way of life.
