Finding Your Spiritual Tribe

Ivory’s Lost It

She’s posting photos of zebras.  What does that have to do with spirituality?  Turns out it has a lot to do with it.  Years ago, I was talking with my friend about my feeling that I did not really fit in with most social groups. Clearly I had not yet found my spiritual tribe.

Something just didn’t mesh well. Obviously, I wanted to fit in.  I wanted to find my tribe. Sure, I liked the people.  But I got a strong feeling, as an empath, it is a strong feeling…that most of them didn’t care if I was there or not. Or they thought I was strange.  This is not about hurt feelings, or someone doing something wrong.  It’s simply an observation.

You’re a Zebra

My friend replies, “That’s because you’re a zebra, Ivory.”  Huh?  She went on to explain that I’m different.  That’s true.  Just me being me has always been different.  She said that I’m a zebra trying to fit in with horses.  I laughed at first.  But later, I gave this more thought and I could feel the truth in it.

Zebras are not better than horses.  They are just different.  Zebras get along great with other zebras.  In my case, being a zebra is being a highly sensitive mystic medium angel channel being of light.  I’m not the only one.  Far from it.

Find Your Spiritual Tribe

It’s important to find your own tribe, the people who get you, fully accept you, and love you for being you.  I’ve known this for decades, so I’m not sure why I thought it would be different when I moved to the Sedona area.  Perhaps I thought the entire area was populated with zebras.  It’s not.

This simple statement in a casual conversation with my friend has released me from feeling like I need to keep trying to fit in.  There are people in this area that I do fit in with.  They are other spiritual, quirky, Lightworker people.  When I’m with these groups of people, I feel completely at ease.  Ah….home.

Where to Find Them

I found my tribe over the years by starting spiritual circles where I lived and hanging on to the friends who got me.  Here, I started an afterlife study group which brought a whole new group of wonderful zebras into my life.

If you want to start finding your tribe, start with Meetup.com.  Enter “spirituality” and how many miles you are willing to drive to attend a meetup.  You will see a list of options.  Attend the ones that appeal to you.  Of course, you won’t like everyone you meet, but you are very likely to connect with some of them.  Strike up a friendship.

It’s more satisfying to have a small tribe that feels right, than trying to fit in with those who don’t connect with you.  My friend…zebras need zebras.
